Let’s keep in mind that under Obama, upwards of 3.2 million undocumented immigrants were deported. Trump has already backed off from his vow to deport those who have not committed crimes in this country, at least until he builds the security barrier, which will likely take years.

Most of the teepees erected on reservations are more symbolic than utilitarian. Geodesic domes don’t carry the same political/cultural weight.

As important as Standing Rock is, viewing this as a major environmental victory- IF it holds- when arctic temperatures are at freakishly historic lows is analogous to erecting a cutting edge yurt on the Carolina Coast just before a hurricane.

When those who stayed home or voted Stein complain to me that they’ve lost their health coverage, I’ll be handing them a pair of bootstraps and sticking my fingers in my ears.

Many of the people in the world are already led by dictators- or at risk of electing quasi fascists- who are flat out terrible. Asking the French- who are facing the real possibility of a Le Pen victory, or Venezuela, or Zimbabwe, or Turkey, or Russia to protest Trump is just a bit precious.

I don’t think it’s time flee the country, but I do think it’s time to be very, very vigilant.

I agree. I’m one of the few people I know who’s glad to see the alt right out in the open. There was always a 10,000 pound elephant in the room, and last weekend the elephant took the stage at a convention in DC.

I disagree- I think if the next four years are un unmitigated economic disaster, and the Democrats put up a Corey Booker or a Tim Ryan, Trump will get clobbered.

Maybe they won’t. The emphasis in my scenario is on “IF.”

If Trump’s economic policies create jobs, the markets don’t tank, and the Democrats don’t put up a candidate who can outplay him on economics, he’ll be reelected.
