Gary Johnson is basically a liberal Republican who probably took more votes from Trump than Hillary.

I think it wouldn’t have been a problem if the people doing the asking weren’t coastal elites and those with advanced degrees. People in the South and Midwest felt condescended to, talked down to. They decided to say, “Fuck you, don’t tell me how to think.” Hell, even Connecticut and Rhode Island voted 40% for Trump.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with feeling anger, sadness, etc.

The silver lining is that the Republicans now have control of every branch of government. If they fuck up, it’s on them, and they’ll be swept out in 4 years in a landslide. Now, they truly have no excuses.

Yeah, I’m trying to steel myself for a Trump victory, just in case. Michigan and New Hampshire are way too close in the polls.

Minimum wage in Montecito?

Not a bad idea. I figure I won’t sleep a hell of a lot Tuesday night.

Yeah, that’s fucked up. Dems need to get out and vote downballot.

Ironically, or perhaps not so, teachers and childcare workers make relatively low wages even in the absolute most “progressive” pockets in the country- Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Cambridge, etc. So, if these towns pay teachers so little relative to the cost of living, don’t expect anything to change nationally

Tip O’Neil was absolutely wonderful, an old time Democrat from the days when North Cambridge was tough and mostly working class Irish.

I don’t think millennials realize just how much Bill Clinton was despised by the far right back in the 90's. There were as many conspiracy theories floating around the Clintons as there currently are around Obama- Mena, Arkansas, Whitewater, Webb Hubbell, Vince foster, etc. Just as Obama is accused of being secretly

Very good point. I suppose if you’re unfriending people as fast as you’re friending them- that alone is a red (or green) flag for advertisers. The algorithm is likely very intelligent.

Yeah, I should probably say, “seek help,” rather than “therapy.” I’d include AA, NA, a counselor at the Veterans Administration, etc.

No, he’s really not sorry. What a walking cliche of ignorance this guy is.

That’s true. I would, however, agree with benjamin that the opportunities for good treatment in rural areas far from teaching hospitals and doctoral programs are pretty substandard.

I’d agree with you 100% that mental health opportunities are certainly better if you have money. I’ll stick with my point that, on average, you cannot learn much about the mental health of a person from whether or not he or she has been in therapy.

You’re probably right. My basic argument is that trying to decide who’s mentally healthy or not based upon who’s in therapy is by definition flawed. Whether or not people in rural communities receive good treatment is another discussion. I would agree with you that they don’t.

Depends. I know that those in AA don’t consider it technically “therapy.” However, any treatment that involves introspection and self study should be included under the umbrella of therapy. If you are an alcoholic (sex addict, debt addict, etc) with the self awareness to drag yourself to AA, you’ve won half of the

That’s not exactly correct. There are plenty of marriage counselors and social workers in rural American that don’t charge that much money. We’re not talking about psychoanalysis here; simply counseling, including drug and alcohol, and self help groups such as AA, NA, DA........... etc.

What’s interesting is that most of America believes that if you’re in therapy, you have mental health issues. However, in academic circles in Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, therapy is seen as little more than healthy self study.
