I took my kid to an event this weekend. I was very excited and a lot of people I work with in volunteer committees were there. When people met my son and asked how he was, he kept replying “I’m bored and this is stupid.” I finally took him to the car, threatened to beat him, and put him on restriction.

The problem with “flattering” is that what it usually means is dressing in a way that gets you as close as possible to an arbitrary and impossible patriarchal beauty standard. It essentially asks women to apologize and compensate for what we naturally look like. We should strive to dress in ways that make us feel good…

I get annoyed at the tip, “wear all one colour, it lengthens you/makes you look taller.” I’m 5'2", I don’t give two shits about looking taller — it’s just not something I’m self-conscious about. I just have a big personality that makes me seem taller. ;)

THIS. It is not a fat woman’s job to hide her body from someone who may deem it unattractive. The trick, for me, is making sure that I believe I look attractive in it and I’m not basing it on the thin asthetic.

Last year I had pieces of cloth and clothespins in my kindergarten classroom that the kids would make outfits out of. One day at sharing time two little boys proudly stood in front of the class to show off the dresses they had made.
