It used to be that America stood for pragmatism and solutions, and it was Europe where nothing got done because of idelogues and helplessly inefficient politics and political rallies. America was, at least in the ideal, a place where we would say,

@FamilyCarGuy: Yeah, this may be too late to count, but I think it's relevant. Because GM did a bunch of good things with Saturn, among the bad things. In particular with the (Japanese-inspired) non-adversarial dealership model, which actually did work to create customer loyalty.
