I have a 2000 E39 540i as well! Though I have to say that comparing any car to the E39 is almost unfair— the interior on those is damn near perfect in terms of ergonomics and build quality. My 17 year old 540i has less creaks and rattles on the inside than a 2 year old Mustang.
