why women don’t want to share bathrooms with men
why women don’t want to share bathrooms with men
I would think it could be made to work, though. If the bathrooms were designed so that there were no obstructions/places for someone to hide, and equipped with effective locks, this sort of situation might not happen.
Are you gently wrapped in the blanket of privilege in some academic institution where it is fashionable to ignore the real world so you are fashionably saying “hey middle east countries are no worse than the US for women”?
The first principle as a feminist website is to address crimes on women. Not to cover it up. Not the shush the victims and tell them that they cannot be covered due to “how it may look or be used.”
That’s the problem. The laws doesn’t cover surprise attacks where the victim simply has no time to act during the attack.
Um...it’s ANGELA Merkel if you are speaking about our PM, but please don’t. Seriously, you do not know what you are talking about.
We’re talking about an assault here. A physical attack on another person, a crime of violence directed specifically against a woman. This is not a drug offense or property crime where no violence was involved. This is not a category of “smaller” crimes for which sentences should be reduced.
I gasped inwardly myself.
The worst part of the article:
I appreciate your insight. My SO’s family lives in Stuttgart so I’ve visited Germany about a dozen times, also spent a couple of months traveling through the east (Weimar, Berlin). I have a very good friend who were born and raised in Ireland, and she moved to Scotland because of the inhumane abortion laws. She sent…
When you are talking about criminal justice reform, you need to distinguish between violent and nonviolent offenses. Sexual assault is by definition a violation, which is a violent offense. I believe the best route is strong sentences for crimes against people but lighter sentences or deferment for nonviolent or…
Sex without consent is rape, period. You don’t have to prove force was used. Just that you didn’t consent.
This is, functionally, how enforcement is in other countries. In theory all rape is illegal in the U.S., but unless you can prove force through something like physical injuries, good luck getting it prosecuted. Someone sexually assaulted or harassed you in public? Hope it was on camera... otherwise, you’re probably…
Sexual harrasment/molestation laws were created with workplaces in mind. I think the law is actually called “sexual harrasment at work” but also applies to schools and similar institutions. Sadly, they were never updated to include other situations. If it’s verbal sexual harrasment you can try to apply the laws for…
“Suspicions of some mass cover-up were fanned by conservative outlets that referenced the well-worn racist narrative of dark-skinned men abusing white women.”
Awful, sure, but you won’t be visiting from where? The US? How much do you believe that anti-groping laws in the US are actually enforced?
In particular the line “public spaces.” So if it happened in someone’s home, then it is assault? That law is a whole bucket of WAT.
“This is the irony women’s activists are struggling with in the wake of attacks in Cologne. A quick squeeze of the breasts, a hand on the ass, an unwanted kiss — when it happens in a public space, none of these are against the law in Germany.”
What the article doesn’t say is that they are currently working on an amendment of this stupid, outdated law. Which is also a reaction to the events of New Year’s Eve in Cologne.
But, but, this is Germany!!! It’s in Europe!!! It’s a Western country!!!! It’s a first world country!!! Everybody knows that we don’t have problems with violence against women in first world countries!!!!!! What about those women in third world countries!!!???? Why don’t you care about them!!!!!?????? STOP COMPLAINING…
