It’s because it is men saying it about women who have been victimized. The violation gave them a boner or made them laugh or feel superior - and it (allegedly) wouldn’t make them feel bad if it happened to them. Misogyny runs deep.

the part that should bother you is the part where they willfully, repeatedly, and selfishly violated personal privacy.
Plenty of old school patriarchs will argue that this is what happens when you put women in combat situations. Because men apparently aren’t capable of behaving responsible around women. And yet they think men are “superior” to women?
Well, bully for you. I, for one, am bothered by the fact that there are people who can dehumanize and violate these women for an entire year with absolutely no common decency or conscience. And the fact that they sold the videos, and clearly the videos were bought by god knows how many others, possibly posted on the…
In other words, “boys will be boys”. Bullshit. It was a vicious and cruel violation that went on for a year and you can damn well bet that everyone knew about it and did nothing.
I would like this to be the remedy to ALL industries with a pattern and practice of sexual malfeasance against women. What a lovely idea for a deterrent! It boils down to: “if you can’t play nicely, then I will take away your toy and give your toy to your sister”.
He wrote in an endorsement letter. “...I find no indication that the leadership environment of either command was culpable in creating an environment that contributed to this insidious incident.”
The military promotes this sort of group mentality, where you don’t rat on fellow members. Even though the statement of McGarity is pretty chickenshit, I also think he’s probably right. There are plenty of stories where people in the military who turn in others end up either getting discharged or “accidentally” killed…
I get always get stuck on the inhumanity and lack of common decency. You’ve signed up to fight, and possibly die for your country but your gravitas and sense of honor doesn’t extend far enough to not pull Porky’s style bullshit on YOUR FELLOW crew member ?
“SUBRON 20 boss William Houston, however, does not think that filming ring is indicative of larger problems aboard the submarine or in the Navy at large.”
make the sub crews all-woman. problem solved.
I actually find some value in the saying your freedom of speech ends when you “yell fire in a crowded theatre” (ironically, coined in a Supreme Court case where I do NOT agree with the outcome, and freedom of speech WAS curtailed). When your freedom of speech puts people in actual physical danger. I don’t mean hurts…
I sympathize with your position in some ways, and in no way am I accusing you have any of this, but...
I’ve heard similar stories about other European countries. There’s plenty of problems with America, but near-universal freedom of speech, even for shitty thoughts like this asshole’s, is something I’m glad we have.
I entirely disagree with what he said, but I’m also damned glad I live in a place where comments like these can’t lead to a police investigation.
Policing thoughts and opinions that don’t advocate violence is wrong.
I won’t even start to pretend to be an expert on English law, but as far as I am aware, yes. England doesn’t have nearly as strong of freedom of speech provisions as we do in the United States for stuff like this.
Legit question - can you be charged with a crime in Great Britain for what he said??
3 things
I don’t understand how the same people that are so accepting of trans individuals are so against this woman and her ethnicity dysphoria. Ethnicities/race is a social construct. Gender is a social construct-recent studies are debunking this idea that male and female brains are *so* different. What is the problem? Maybe…
