After talking to people who work on this stuff everyday, this is pretty much it. The EPA doesn’t rigidly define everything, so manufactures follow the rules as defined. There’s good reasons why the drive cycles exist.... they cover a large range of conditions and what is normally seen. Engines may not hit mandated

Also, just going to say this is the most detailed/informative article so far on this subject today. Most other outlets are pretty scant on details. Maybe there’s hope for Jalopnik’s journalistic integrity after all! :P

David, you’ve largely echoed my comments from the first article regarding this posted earlier today, and I might say went into a good, detailed description of the likely scenario that FCA is being charged with. I suspect you’re right, it’s not at all like VW’s dieselgate cheating. It’s more them reducing effectiveness

Great article...

Not bad. A design judge at FSAE would probably give you a decent (above mean, but not going-to-semis) score for that explanation-on-the-fly.

I was impressed by that, too.

Have to say, the RAM driver did a great job getting his truck slid into just the right position.

It’s not an extra finger, it’s the skin on the edge of the hand that is folded because of the awkward position of the hand. It’s an unfortunate crop, though, because an untrained eye might mistake that portion as an extra finger.

At first I was wondering what the numbers were for... then I realised you thought palm flesh was a finger and I pitied you instead. The clue is in the lack of an extra knuckle.

This ain’t right.

And by “right,” I don’t mean “accurate.” Because it’s definitely accurate.

Don’t know if medium-effort (had to look up names!) troll-job or delusional...

Jalop, the word is jalop.

One internet tells only lies and one internet tells only the truth.

I hear The Internet never lies, can you confirm?

2016 Wrangler with 6 speed manual here, oh how I love wallowing in my smug manual righteousness!

These are not sliding doors, because they do not slide. The door is one member of a four-bar linkage; it moves on hinge bars, which themselves swing like traditional car doors.

My neighbors Dodge Caravan had doors like that 20 years ago. Sure, they slid backwards instead of forward, but a sliding door is a sliding door.
