I'm also a layperson, but I know that Esmail is not in the same league as Kubrick or Lynch.

If I've just spent two seasons watching a superhero origin story I will be angry.

What makes this show thematically coherent, when it is thematically coherent, is its metaphorical underpinnings. If time travel exists or Elliott and Angela are actually robots, or any other sci fi thing people are speculating about actually happens on this show it will lose its metaphorical power. Also — an essential

In the show's reality there doesn't seem to be a Supreme Court. You just have to convince a guy to do something unConstitutional for you.

Whiterose and the Dark Army are pretty much omniscient. There is nothing the Dark Army can't do, if it wants to do it. This only works as long as the Dark Army is kept very much in the background. There is no way to give a character like Whiterose "development" without diminishing her force.

Whoops. This is meant as a reply to Migraine Boy. Big Fun in the Big Town, From Mambo to Hip Hop, and 80 Blocks from Tiffany's are all really good documentaries. 80 Blocks, especially, seems to have been a direct influence on The Get Down.

I agree. As a musical fantasy it's really, really entertaining.

Damages was consistently entertaining.

Because the voice said "Man and girl." That indicates an age difference.

As opposed to the grammar rules that aren't made up?

I have not been to jail and I could tell there was all kinds of stuff amiss about the jail stuff.
