I realise that it doesn't really fit with the tone of your article, but while mortality rates haven't significantly dropped, life expectancy when suffering from various cancers has grown - dramatically.
I'm a little concerned by your definition of "Best of all", because, to me anyway, the idea of having my smartphone doing stuff just because it heard a sound in the background seems more like a problem than a feature.

They had this on "Bang Goes the Theory" not long ago (it's kind of like a BBC Mythbusters - but with more science and less blowing stuff up).
Yeah, but that logic only works if you can actually reasonably spend that cash on some alternative.
