The top-mounted front turn signals actually break away and fall into the fender on impact! I imagine there’s tons of deformation space beneath that vertical front end that would help as well.

Exactly. There is a huge difference in owning/riding in/driving a 200k+ or 300k+ Toyota vs a GM. Mainly, on the Toyota darn near eveyrthing (if not everything) still works and looks more or less like it did originally.

Eah...GM has improved significantly but add 300k miles to either one of the vehicles and the Toyota is still going to be in better shape. Reason why GM is mid-pack in reliability and Toyota is always number 1.

Resale and reliablity would be the main reasons I’d imagine

The Beetle has better name brand recognition than that jeep. I feel pretty comfortable saying that, if you put a picture of a Beetle and that jeep in front of most people, the majority would know a VW Beetle, but wouldn’t be able to name the model name or manufacturer of the jeep.
