I absolutely agree. I feel like that entire genre has been stagnating and leaning more toward the more superficial for a long time now. I used to love these types of games too.

As an adult male in my late 30's I can relate. Pointless fan service is one of the things that eventually drove me away from anime fandom and I was a huge fan in my younger years, going to club meetings to trade tapes and later volunteering at conventions.

I love how no matter how idiotic or crude male gamers act no one asks how it reflects on males in gaming but when a girl is doing something suddenly she’s a representative for her entire gender.

One thing that drives me crazy is how sterile the alien raced and their facilities seem. Instead of the same space stations over and over I want to find a space station cobbled together out of junk with a seedy space bar inside frequented by ruffians and bandits. I want to find a pirate camp on a planet's surface!
