One other note I think you might not be hitting very hard here, Tim, is the advantage that broadcast networks still (barely) hold against cable networks when going into negotiations. Broadcast networks don't have to pay as much because typically the leagues would rather be FOX, ABC, NBC or CBS than on a cable network…

I like the idea of the 18-week season with two byes per team... that's how they used to do it. But if they want to keep the 17-week schedule, I just don't see why they don't spread the byes out. I get that they want all their teams playing down the stretch, but spreading out the byes so that each team has a bye week…
Real question here: Why don't they work out the schedule so only teams with a bye in the prior week play on Thursday nights?
