Fellow gay here who's always been aroused by the idea, but has never actually done it.
Then having him in your peripheral vision is not gonna make you feel better about it. If you don't see him in person, then it should be fairly easy to block that shit out without having to completely sever ties.

I like this approach, especially if you leave some time to talk afterwards. Doing an activity can be a fun way to break the ice and see how you vibe with the other person before you have to sit across from them and ask personal questions.
