Actually it says that the guy who was in charge of deciding on names was directionally challenged but the rest of his exploration party were too polite to correct him when he picked out the wrong name, so it stuck.

I went to the Wikipedia page for Yonge Street and fell down a link wormhole. Yonge Street is considered a big deal historically, being fundamental in the development of western Upper Canada. Did you know that “Upper Canada” is actually the southernmost part of the country? Dumb Canadians.

I did exactly this last month coming from L.A. Drove to Monetary on the 101, then had a solid 30 mile run on the 1 before the road closures. Great stretch for great photos, still wish there was more road.
