Well, if you’re going to have a smartphone and wifi, then I’d add a translation app loaded for situations where you find your Japanese vocabulary limited. Even if is Google translate.

I just returned from Japan on vacation. One thing that helped riding the trains/subways was having a Suica card (or a Pasmo, but I didn’t get that one).

I always buy these cheap bluetooth headphones on amazon (CDN $25). So far they all have the same issue. The audio stutters when the ambient temperature changes by a few degrees or stutter in the cold (below 12 C).

So this is going around...

Does anyone still use shorthand writing? I’d like to know how that compares in speed.

You sometimes won’t see a major graphical difference between platforms because the devs or publishers do not one platform or another to outperform another due to graphics. I've seen games that could easily out perform graphically on the PC, but someone on the higher pay grade nixed that idea.
