I'm not sensitive toward general criticism but I was left pretty confused by much that was in the hashtag. I felt like a lot of what was being brought up was similar to another straw-feminist - the Choice Feminist. The "White Feminist" that talks about how nice it is that France banned those horrible hijabs and is

This, or... maybe... shockingly? Confront her. In a non subversive way. Say "hey, you seem really cool now, but did you realize you made my life hell when we were kids?" Simple, but effective.

Eeeh I tend to find it.. not cool. The initial marketing was seriously like "wow! you are gross with that underarm hair!" And made it out like lady underarm hair was disgusting while male underarm hair was totally okay. Obviously pretty much everyone in NA ever has been conditioned to expect women to be smooth. I just

It DIDN'T start for that reason. It started because of marketing, pure and simple. The razor companies decided they wanted to sell more razors, and began targeting women. This was about the time of WWI, so it probably had something to do with the fact that a lot of the razor-buying fellas were overseas.

Okay! That is great. I'm glad to hear it. I don't follow her work, but it's clear you do. I'm glad she's distanced herself from problematic language. I hope everyone does.

"Tranny" has been used offensively for a very long time. It is nice that you have had anecdotal experiences where it was being reclaimed, but people of that group using it is a lot different than someone not of the group using it. Same for queer and dyke.

If I put my number in a public place on the internet, and someone complimented my appearance along with my intelligence and my ability to engage, uh. No, I wouldn't find that creepy.

Well, it's a vaguely insulting term to the people my age set that I know, so... Perhaps not as kind as you think.

I know there are tons of people calling this creepy but... I... dunno...? He's obviously feeling super awkward about doing it but he's like omigosh sooo pretty omg she's soooo smaaaart so cooool!!! And he obviously didn't expect her to go nuts for him after he sent her that considering he was all "oh no no don't sweat

I dunno how long ago you mean, but even 15 years ago "tranny" was an uncomfortable word bandied about mostly by the non-LGBT. If anyone from the queer comm does use it, I generally say they're ignorant despite their minority status (it doesn't come w/a handbook after all!) and they need to learn to step that shit off.

Something that disturbs me about this article is the implication that pointing out her ableism is devolving the conversation. I'm not sure what's to be accomplished with insulting one marginalized group as you try to bolster another. I think it's a really valid talking point. Perhaps off topic yes, but not inferior.

I'm sure you also are a fine person! I'm glad that we had some fun, if not very communicative fun. I would accept your pint and then return the favor.

I hate to break it to you but IRL is a pretty old acronym! It means "in real life" and I used it to illustrate that your statement was so silly I laughed at it, not just in the "ha ha, internet!" sense, but in the real life sense. But hey, that's so the same as going to the trouble of typing like a pirate.

"All women to be so weak as to be offended by a side-scrolling beat-em-up" Ahaha oh man I snorted IRL.

Though your role-playing is adorable, what's not so cute is perpetuating and encouraging games to feature women as more of the same while claiming to want change. It's disingenuous.

Gah! When you put it like that - and it's totally a power/discipline thing if it's not coming from a genuinely misguided source - it sounds so... unsettling. I definitely had this type of upbringing, too, and my parental unit? Complete control freak, unfortunately.

I brought up Zelda and a whole slew of other games. You latched onto it and ignored the fact that LoZ was brought up ~in context~ with other titles. Then after I reiterated my point was the context of playing all the games with common themes, you continued to focus on Zelda! I brought it up, but Zelda wasn't the end

She didn't help popularize the trope. I was well aware of the trope existing - it's existed for a long time - before she made her videos.

Okay, your reply really confused me for a moment, but then I realized you went and found my response to someone else and started responding to it, too.

Personally, I COULDN'T buy it. I didn't have a PS3 at the time. However, I got it - along with every other Breath of Fire ever released in the US - when it was initially released as a new game.
