Just what I needed in my life: someone being condescending on the internet! Man, you're a real forward thinker, huh.

I do wonder if anyone else, like all those people +1ing you, noticed...
I have it, along with hmm... 4 coworkers and about 10-12 friends. I also happen to work at a big box retailer that sells it, and we're consistently sold out. And every time I get a new StreetPass on my 3DS, there's about a 70% chance that their "currently playing" is going to be Animal Crossing.
Answer to your possibly-rhetorical question: for Blacks and Latinos (and people of every other racial heritage) they are indeed those things, because it is who they are. Your heritage, your race, is inescapable. If you are white, you are a White gamer, not just a "gamer." When you play video games, or watch movies,…
I didn't get on steam until 2008, but god it was STILL awful then. I remember myself and a group of friends had arranged a mini TF2 tournament - and steam crapped itself RIGHT before we were about to set up. Loadouts stopped working, chat stopped working, it was terrible. We'd joke that Gabe must have sat on the…
There's a big difference between making gags based on someone's region - you could be of any race and be from Texas - and making gags about someone's race.
This, this this. I am appalled to see people gushing over Fry. He's very much a rich white man living in a world that caters to his whims. He's intelligent and funny, to be sure, but good grief he openly has no problems saying that people who are offended are choosing to be so.
"You keep insulting me, you ignorant person with no self confidence!! omg!"
Girls mature physically earlier, but that alone is not enough to make them mentally mature.
Girls are stereotyped as maturing earlier because of our society, not because of what's between their legs. Creators control the society their characters grow up in.
I don't have to know you. You openly made a sexist statement.
Being called sexist isn't offensive. BEING sexist is offensive.
I'm responding to you based on how you've replied. You're being defensive and you're avoiding the point. I've never said that there "needs" to be a choice. I only said that if someone claims gender is artistic vision, they're sexist and a poor writer. You continue to repeat your inarticulate, defensive replies without…
During that debacle that was the "relax and let it happen" bullshit that got dropped at the Xbox conference, someone brought up that anyone upset about that being said had obviously never played a fighting game! I was mad. Real mad. I didn't reply, though. Whenever people are that far up their own ass I just try to…
You meet a woman that mentions that you're "a little bit sexist" and your reaction is that you are extremely offended? I called you sexist for a reason. Why is your reaction kneejerk defensiveness? I'm offended by the idea that gender is so important to fiction that we must continue to be silent about an imbalanced…
Well, no one actively looks for role models or influences as a child. There was a study I brought up in another comment on this article - apparently little girls feel they need to change their hair and skin color after being exposed to fictional princesses that look different than them. It's sneaky. It's not in your…
No, what's ridiculous is making this argument as if video games weren't interactive and largely customizable media. Customization and path-choosing is a big part of many games. You can't mute only the BG music in movies; you can in games.
That's actually the point. Kids never realize this shit is happening to them. Girls grow up playing these video games and, sure, enjoying them - but they don't usually relate to the main male character the same way boys do. They don't quite put themselves into the hero's shoes.
Personally, I don't think you're against women. I do think that you're very well-seated in your personal beliefs, however.
Full disclosure: I'm going to be 30 next year. I started my gaming life with a Sega Master System. I've played fighting games, platformers, RPGs, FPS. I'm also a woman. So this topic is something I've been dealing with for a pretty long time.
