I was just looking through these old comments. I don’t comment on gizmodo.com anymore because I’m in the UK so I’m automatically directed to the UK version (which has very few comments) and i09 no longer features posts about climate change.

Looking on the bright side, it was 0.5 degrees cooler in the Victorian era. That must have made a huge difference.
Climate change?
I thought you were done with me?!
My overall impression is that you’re the one who has no idea what you’re talking about. Waffling on about “fluid dynamics” (which I seriously doubt you understand) doesn’t count as an explanation, nor does your resorting to childish swearing and insults. I’m not surprised you’re “done with me” as you’re complately out…
“everywhere is experiencing unusual weather patterns at once” Not according to the IPCC reports - but what do they know?
SUV driving assholes Do you not use any products of our industrial civilisation at all? Electricity maybe? Plastic?
I said might. There’s no reason to suppose that the trend would have changed sign since 2008 though, indeed it could well be accumulating even more ice. Antarctica has been cooling overall and aquiring more sea ice since satellite records began.
I’m perfectly willing to admit I’m wrong when I’m wrong but my comments here have been 100% correct. If you think otherwise, why don’t you try presenting an argument as to why rather than just sniping from a cowardly distance, Mr. Yellow Chicken?
To address both your points together: Yes, I do live on the coast and the tidal range where I live is up to 22 feet from low to high tide. The 13 mm in 5 years of SLR you mentioned would increase the high tide by 13 mm and the low tide also by 13 mm. The overall increase in sea level would be 13 mm. Do you think…
1. No, it’s not +2.6 mm/year - look at tide gauges, the figure is more like +1.7 mm/year.
Wrong. You’re just cherry-picking your research Mr. Fab. Try looking at tide gauges and stop lying to preserve your fake 100% one-sided view of reality.
Your argument here is just more cherry-picked rubbish. Where is your evidence and how do you know it won’t be overturned in a few years by a newer study? I said “may”. You don’t know the meaning of any such qualification as you’re a SIF.
You have not debunked me in any way and don’t even have the decency to address me directly. You are a coward and a fanatic who presents a completely one-sided view of “climate change”.
Your entire reply is just 100% wrong.
1) The NOAA graphic you link to, apart from clearly showing that sea level is actually falling in some areas (in direct contradiction to your comment that it is rising “everywhere”) doesn’t say anything about whether SLR (sea level rise) is accelerating or not so cannot be used to…
A flat-out wrong claim. The 3 mm/year figure comes from satellite data, tide guages show no increase. Incidentally, note how Mr. Fab likes the satellite data for sea level but not atmospheric temperature. Draw your own conclusions...
It’s amazing that you nitpick such a simple and basically correct claim but then argue with me endlessly about CO2 being plant food!
There hasn’t been any acceleration in SLR and there’s no reason why there would be. I have to say that I think medical care, mental health care and so on are far more important problems than slightly milder weather.
Melting SEA ICE does not raise sea level. Maybe you’re thinking about glaciers or something?
Three things:
