It’s not Mercedes per say, but Toto’s “need”to help Bottas, which arises from his relationship with him. Prior to signing with Mercedes, Bottas was managed by Toto.

It’s a two way street. If the team doesn’t owe Bottas anything, than he also doesn’t owe anything to the team.

True but people should be very careful touching anyone car without permission no matter how well meaning they may be they don’t want the owner to claim later they damaged it.
