See how good it is when you let women in on the writing! Yes, a little Black Mirror-esque but one of the most unusual episodes of the show. No idea whether it means anything but as a one off story, very enjoyable.

I consider Mulder being insanely reluctant to tip the robots a beautiful callback to him totally stiffing the vampire pizza delivery boy in “Bad Blood,” another one of their all-time great episodes.
God this was so fucking good. The season premiere is like 1000 miles away at this point. I’ve loved each episode since, and this one was like a great masterclass in visual storytelling and sound design and editing, something the premiere botched in every possible way.
I hope they let this writing team pen more episodes. Good stuff!
“You’ve never seen me panic. When I panic I make this face.”
uh is it too rash to already say this might be my favorite episode of the whole series? my god this was a delightful and fascinating concept of a bottle episode. and just flawlessly executed. A+
I agree, part of it seemed to be a playful indictment of how much time people spend on screens even when they’re with one another, but it also reinforced how naturally comfortable Scully and Mulder are with one another, how they don’t need to make awkward conversation to enjoy one another’s company. That bit where…
Oh, Mulder. I love that even though he was 99% sure he was saving their lives, he really, really hated coming off that tip.
Yeah, Zack’s kind of missing the point of this series, I think.
I can’t figure out why the reviewer is so insistent that this series must have a 10-words-or-less sentence which fully—and to the exclusion of anything else—describes what the show is about.
I wish the click bait headline of this article didn’t do such a disservice to the show.
I think ‘fuck it up and you can destroy all life in this and every other universe’ provides a pretty strong reason for why the idea of the spore drive would have been buried and forgotten.
God, thank you for this. It’s so depressing to rush to the internet after a great episode of Discovery and just see someone who hates the show nitpick it to death. You shouldn’t have to be totally impartial to review something, but he clearly despises it. Not to pull this card, but as someone who’s seen all of Star…
Zack Handlen = Neil Degrasse Tyson. He’s not necessarily wrong, but he’s spoiling the fun.
Yeah, I think years from now, this will be the Star Trek show that gets a fair deal of critical re-evaluation in its favor. One of the big criticisms about Trek TV in the 90s was how similar and stale Trek has become. Now comes a Trek series with some issues but “stale and safe” aren’t among them. You can never make…
There was a lot about this episode that was dumb (e.g., the Emperor acting stupidly just because, Lorca wanting to get in Burnham’s pants override common sense, etc.) and happened for action demands instead of smart plot (i.e., any excuses to see Michelle Yeoh kicking ass), but I still really enjoyed it.
That throne room group fight scene was basically Michelle Yeoh Is a Goddamned Action Star and Don’t You Forget it.
THIS. When I was younger, still living at home with my conservative parents, I took a political science class at the local college. We had weekly debates, and for the reproductive rights debate, I took the anti-abortion side, because that’s what I believed. The professor asked if I thought abortion was murder and…
Here’s a link to Dr. Hern’s clinic for anyone interested in offering support directly to the people who work there, and here’s the National Network of Abortion Funds. The George Tiller Memorial Fund specifically goes to late abortions.
How selfless and incredible of this woman to share such a painful, heartbreaking yet insightful story. So much love going out to her.
