Maybe the outrage about professors' attendance policies missed the point of ALL THE RACISM just a little bit.

Thank you for that. Professors appreciate it. :P)

Having gone to Syracuse, I can attest to the great number of days that I gave MYSELF a snow day. Look out the window, see three feet of snow, roll over, and go the fuck back to sleep. What the fuck is wrong with kids these days??

Follow-up news piece: #fuckphyllis is super popular still, because of all the people using it to make fun of the students who used it in the first place.

Hi from IL. This cold is extreme, even for here.

That does not, however, excuse this racist assholery.

When you go to a commuter school like I do and we usually get about 2-3 car crashes every time it snows, you begin to start seeing reasons.

A few weeks ago when we had that cold snap the windchill at my university was -40. The city issued a travel advisory for people to stay home and the university shut down for 2 days. People who have not experienced this level of cold don't realize the danger it presents. Exposed skin can freeze in a few minutes. If

Yes, some of us are in fucking college and have to drive to school every day.

... but if you're in college and you don't want to go to class... just don't go? I mean no one really cares. You're an adult. Get your money's worth or don't.

I went to school for 4 years in upstate NY (in case you're unfamiliar with the weather there, it's fucking cold and it snows a shit-ton). Never once was school ever cancelled for snow or cold. Almost all students lived on campus, so there was no reason you couldn't be outside for the less than 10 minutes it would

Right??? I'm floored that any of them even gives a shit whether the snow day is made official.

Racist comments are unacceptable, as are sexist ones. This should go without saying.

I gave my students a pass back at the beginning of our January term when it was -26 the morning of the first day of class. But dammit, I was there. It's northern Iowa. It's cold. So what?

I wish.

Most of my students showed up here in MO where it was 8 degrees this morning with a -15 windchill. It doesn't usually get that cold out here. Rarely since I moved here 4 years ago has it dipped below 10. So, they gave it the old college try. I will give them all a "thank you" for being nice people on Wednesday.

A snow day in fucking college?

So these are college students, right? As in adult college students who can choose to either brave the cold and get to class or skip and stay warm and cozy in bed. Not high school kids or kindergarteners? Because that's a lot of whining. That's the fun of college: you could choose whether or not you went to class.

Isn't it fun to be PREY!?

When I was doing chat-based tech support, we had a male tech on our team with a first name that is generally considered female here in the States (think Kelly or Ashley). One day he came over to me with a funny look on his face and asked me, "Do you... /always/ get hit on when you're working?"

Can this be a requirement for using a dating site? Like how everyone should work retail once to become a better customer?
