It's not so much that the Republicans don't want to extend health insurance, it's because OBAMA did it. They hate him so much that from day one they have vowed to oppose everything he does. The healthcare law has been one of the centerpieces of his presidency, and they have crossed their arms about it from the

Come to the table? The ACA passed and was signed into law years ago. There is nothing to compromise on. This isn't how compromise works. When one side loses and throws a temper tantrum because they want a do over that's called acting like a petulant child, not a call to "come to the table" to negotiate.

Totally agree. I'm a federal worker, I make more money than my husband does, and we can afford to miss one of my paychecks, maaaaybe two, but after that we're going to need to hope that either our families can jump in and bail us out or that our mortgage and car loan companies are going to be understanding.

I guess what I'm saying here is that either side, the Left or the Right, could end this simply by offering an olive branch to the other because, as long as they both remain impassible, nothing is going to get solved.

My reaction these days when I hear someone say "it's time for moderates of both parties to come to the table." Yeah, it's hard to do that when the GOP side has no moderates with whom constructive negotiations are possible...

(please?)

At this point in societal evolution, the words "There's ________ porn?" do not need to be uttered. The answer is always "yes".

It pisses me off to an infinite degree that Jon Stewart is the one talking about this and not the actual "legitimate" news. What in the hell am I suppose to do next month if SNAP isn't available? Go to a food bank? Oh you mean the things in my state that had their budget decreased by 66%? Get a better job? That

I didn't know they had gold lamé in prehistoric times. Way to ruin my suspension of disbelief.

How trying it must be to exist in a world where the opposite gender constantly makes itself the center of attention and power. I can't imagine.

The House of Representatives reminds me today of a non-custodial parent who has decided he (or she, but most the Reps are he) doesn't want to pay child support because he is mad at his children's custodial parent. "I don't care if the kids are hungry or sick or homeless. I don't like you so I am not giving YOU

My Mom is one too. She's an interpreter. But you know, non-essential, because having an interpreter at court is irrelevant since justice only speaks English. Or whatever.

I've been a little out of the loop on this, admittedly. But it's my understanding that the majority of Americans support the ACA. So....the house GOP are pitching a fit to try and block its implementation, and as a result shutting down the federal government. Am I correct here?

Now playing

Has anyone seen this absolutely incredible and generally inspiring statement from Sen. Elizabeth Warren? Her general badassery might give us all a little hope.

I know this sounds stupid...but take a moment to contact your congressperson. I know that it can appear that law makers really don't care about what their constituents really think, but their aides do note the numbers of people who contact them. It is worth a shot. Don't forget to add the ridiculous Boehner to your

A comment on Jez is good, but please also take just a moment to also write or call your representatives. It's particularly important if you live in a state with Republican representatives, but I am doing it even in my state with all Dem representatives.

Bringing new meaning to "shutting that whole thing down"!

I still don't know. I only know they claim to have money to pay us tomorrow so I have to come in. After that, no clue despite multiple emails and meetings.

I did have a sad chuckle this morning when NPR had to point out ACA is not a BILL. It is a LAW upheld by SCOTUS.

This is what it looks like when a political party goes completely off the rails and lets their nuttiest members run the show. Maybe there are a few sane Republicans left, but it doesn't matter as long as people like Ted Cruz are calling the shots.
