In my opinion, "Thin-shaming" falls under the same category as misandry and reverse-racism. It's not to say that it doesn't happen or that it doesn't exist, but what people need to realize is that when you come from the perspective of the privileged class, there's a huge difference in (pardon the pun) weight being…
"I actually trust the women I know. I trust them with their choices, I trust them with their bodies and I trust them with their children."
There is literally NOTHING sexier than a man who respects my bodily autonomy and reproductive rights!
Yep - when Watson and Crick rolled out their "nitrogenous bases on the outside" model of DNA, it wasn't stupid and based on almost nothing, it was just being "risky"
It's also easier to be risky when you have less on the line. Wasn't there a study out that said that it's still easier for guys to get the same jobs that women have with less education? If you have that kind of safety net then of course you can take a gamble. I also love the idea that when men go with their gut and…
I don't know, I think this is a little "chicken or egg". We assume there are no qualified women because they tell us there aren't, because they are predisposed to under-value the work of women. I think they have a responsibility to recognize that this is a problem and make a concerted effort to find women that belong…
The problem is that shitty movies still often have powerful impacts on kids. Even if you don't like the movie, lots of kids will, including my nephews. The attitudes presented in these movies will be internalized by these boys, who will further be exposed to the notion that girls aren't meant to be lead characters.
OMG, I can't go too much into detail, but suffice it to say he's your classic "I'm a liberal guy, therefore nothing I say is sexist, and if you think I said something sexist, you're wrong/too sensitive. Also I get a pass to make sexist jokes b/c I'm sooo not sexist."
You obviously don't have kids. These movies are shit but they're for kids, and as parents or people who give a shit about the next generation, what we expose them to and what is produced for them is actually really important.
No doubt about it. Genius comes in only one color and genital type.
I think there's an argument to be made that kids' movies are more important than we might think, simply because they set the stage for development in terms of what messages kids are receiving from culture.
Point. Missed.

The portrayal of women in kids' movies is absolutely a feminist issue. What's the problem here?
Ironic, since planes are typically referred to as women, like the Enola Gay or Memphis Belle. I guess when they are going to be the stars of movies, that changes, huh?
I love this article. Salient points , and a great guideline for anyone who is wondering whether to bring their child to this movie.
