Here’s my crack at it (just for e-cigarettes).
Vaping is different to smoking, in that nothing is burnt. Liquid in, liquid’s heated, it turns to pretty vapour - like your kettle boiling water, by way of a night-club smoke machine (and ultimately turns back to the same liquid when it cools).
