There’s just simply no need to wring your hands over whether this movie is a good idea or not. The original movie was garbage, the second was morally reprehensible (rape and violence that was used to titillate), and this remake is probably going to be garbage too.

I’m talking about practices that actually exist. This doesn’t exist. Also, if Starbucks loses money, do the employees take a hit? Risk sharing is only beneficial when you profitable. Off years would be rough.

Yeah, it’s basically the model for “sustainable service industry practices”. The CEO’s political statements may not be sharp but what he does in practice is, IMHO, more important.

I was thinking the same thing, the CEO might be flighty but it would seem he has done right by his employees. Doesn’t he also offer some kind of tuition help as well?

Hamilton’s take is that Schultz is obnoxious and exploitative. I agree he is obnoxious, but think that Starbucks is a pretty great gig for the unskilled worker as they give you stock options, 401k, pay toward your degrees, etc. I wouldn’t consider these programs exploitative.

not sure the details but I am decently sure you’re right - I don’t think the Starbucks closest to my office has changed personnel in over 2 years, its the same people every morning. Standard jobs of that nature are lucky to keep people for 2 months, so they must be doing something right. I think they have student loan…

They will pay for most of your college education too I believe.

Isn’t Starbucks one of the best case scenarios for lower wage workers? It was my understanding that they have been offering benefits and stuff for years before anyone gave that to service industry workers.
