“I wouldn’t call something ‘Autopilot’ if the manual explicitly says that you have to have your hands on the wheel and the eyes on the road at all times.”

I would agree if he said he had an issue with FSD, but it's not Tesla's fault nobody seems to want to put in the effort to Google how limited Autopilot is in aviation.
I wonder if it was more of a range issue. The guy#1 may have just parked his car as guy#2 was going to get in his car. Then started walking toward the store. Unbeknownst to him guy#1 (whose back is turned) and before he got out of range of the automatic locking, Guy#2 opens up his door and starts to drive off. I…
Phone: have to be within about 5-10 feet of the car to unlock and drive away. It uses Bluetooth, so it doesn’t know on which side of the door you’re on, just that you’re near it.
I’m going to take this story with a grain of salt.
Were both owners trying to unlock their cars around the same time?
“It’s telling that the chemistry isn’t anywhere near what they claimed 3 years ago since they can’t even expand production to fit all of their other cars....”
Its just one example of many. Seriously I have pages of notes where the assertion being made at the very least raises questions of connecting conclusion from data. Im not here to argue each point. My takeaway is that people should not be taking this at face value and should absolutely be fact checking his assertions.
A lot of work went into this piece, and a lot of passion. I applaud both the effort and the goal. I will also concede that there is a lot of great points in there.
It’s a good test case to see if the public actually cares about cars getting re-designed every 6-10 years, like the traditional automakers have been conditioned to do. Tesla’s old cars still offer equal or better range, power, and charging capabilities than stuff coming out right now. A personal disdain for Musk and…
“There can never — and I mean never — be a discount on a new car coming out of the factory in pristine condition.”
The dealerships just want to be in on the take. If you think they care about consumers well being you are being naive. The last thing we need is entrenching the dealership model any further.
We just plug in our Tesla at a Supercharger and we're done. Why would I want to also deal with a card reader?
There’s no line in my driveway, and no time wasted visiting a gas station as my car charges while I sleep.
*looks at my 2017 bolt which has cost me less than $20 of electricity to run for the last year and has always been charged at home*
“and this has also made dealers unlikely allies for buyers”
It’s the first time the Bridge has been visually appealing!
uh, this isn’t the Golden Gate, dude. I dont think anyone in SF considers the old half of the Oakland Bay Bridge on the level of the mona lisa, lol.
An EV with ~300 miles of range stuck in traffic now has ~500 miles of range because the EPA rating was assuming 65mph @ ~4mi/kw, and when you’re crawling under 45mph you’re getting like 7mi/kw.
The irony is that the EV being used to evac likely has more charge (if you’re evac’ing from home), than an ICE vehicle has fuel. My cars are constantly hovering around 1/4 tank. EVs are generally plugged in at home. They’ll be just fine.
