Phone: have to be within about 5-10 feet of the car to unlock and drive away. It uses Bluetooth, so it doesn’t know on which side of the door you’re on, just that you’re near it.

I’m going to take this story with a grain of salt.

Its just one example of many. Seriously I have pages of notes where the assertion being made at the very least raises questions of connecting conclusion from data. Im not here to argue each point. My takeaway is that people should not be taking this at face value and should absolutely be fact checking his assertions.

A lot of work went into this piece, and a lot of passion. I applaud both the effort and the goal. I will also concede that there is a lot of great points in there.

The dealerships just want to be in on the take. If you think they care about consumers well being you are being naive. The last thing we need is entrenching the dealership model any further.

We just plug in our Tesla at a Supercharger and we're done. Why would I want to also deal with a card reader?

An EV with ~300 miles of range stuck in traffic now has ~500 miles of range because the EPA rating was assuming 65mph @ ~4mi/kw, and when you’re crawling under 45mph you’re getting like 7mi/kw.

The irony is that the EV being used to evac likely has more charge (if you’re evac’ing from home), than an ICE vehicle has fuel. My cars are constantly hovering around 1/4 tank. EVs are generally plugged in at home. They’ll be just fine.

Lol... Yeah, there have definitely never been hundreds of ICE vehicles left stranded on highways after running out of gas during evacuations.
