The problem with yield signs is drivers tend to pretty much ignore pedestrians and don’t actually yield. With stop signs, when people are around, the cars at least make an effort to stop.

For the Bolt, it actually made sense given there was actually a higher fire risk due to the recalled defective batteries (same with some BMWs that had engine recalls). But a blanket one doesn’t make much sense.

Foam (and other methods that try to suppress the oxygen supply) is actually ineffective against lithium ion fires because the battery itself has its own oxygen supply.

The car carrier fire actually didn’t involve any EVs. Instead it was assumed the fire started with the EVs and the media carried that with them. It’s myths/assumptions like that why people think EVs are more likely to catch on fire.

Yeah, if the cop knew there was no one down the path and did it just out of spite it would be a shitty move. But the gist I got was there were lots of pedestrians down the road, so there was nothing wrong with what the cop did.

Well they haven’t gone quite to Apple level yet (like encrypting components and not letting you use it with your device if it’s not an Apple authorized part), just that there isn’t an industry yet to offer aftermarket battery parts and repair.

Yep, latter part is the reason why. The market was simply non-existent a few years ago because the packs were not out of warranty yet. Only right now is it really starting to be a thing.

To be fair, the Waymo likely only did it because it detected there was no traffic in the opposite lane (it can “see” further than human can and can accurately detect the velocity of any traffic it detects). If there really was a minivan approaching, it wouldn’t have crossed over.

Might be possible, I've noticed many recent articles where they make glaring mistakes or just plain make stuff up.

Given the windshield was just replaced, I suspect it was either not properly attached or they broke some clips when removing and reattaching it for the windshield replacement. Some panel clips are essentially one time use and the official procedure may call for their replacement, but technicians get lazy sometimes.

I think it pertains to the salvage operation, so it’s more like if a bag of mail fell into the ravine, you may be expected to pay part of the costs of recovering your mail from that ravine. It’s probably in the contract of carriage. You can probably pay extra for insurance to cover such costs or even be compensated

To be fair, hard water marks can bake into painted finishes too, just that most people don’t have colors that make it obvious (black for example makes it very obvious). As such even for painted cars it’s not recommended to wash in direct sunlight. Presumably the stainless steel makes water marks obvious also, thus the

They can’t void your whole warranty (warranty act doesn’t allow that) nor does the wording say that (instead it is a Twitter guy saying that). What it actually says is Tesla doesn’t cover damage to the car if you fail to use the mode and damage it. This is going to be the case for most cars. For example a common issue

Yep, it's a convenience feature. The most important is disabling all external buttons so the car wash can't in advertently activate them and damage them (as has happened a lot of times with other cars). Also prevent seat sensor from throwing car into park (which can be catastrophic).

Double button pressing doesn’t do a full reboot, it only reboots the infotainment. To do a full reboot you need to also power off the car in the menu, then wait until the contactors disconnect. The 5 hours is probably because he waited for the natural sleep cycle to shut down the car. It likely went to sleep already

Yeah, the APIs not being shared is one big barrier. But with the automakers signing up to Tesla’s NACS and supercharger network, at least they get access to Tesla’s API for their network.

The windows dropping down is very typical of frameless window design.

You still have functional doors: just pull the manual release. You can't use the electronic releases because the firmware may be updating the module either inside the doors or the computer that interfaces with the door switches. While updating you typically don't want the user to be messing with it.

Answer to #1 is you set the schedule for the update. By default it is 2am at night, so the Tiktokers must have deliberately chose to do it at this time. Also when you start an update, there is a 2 minute countdown timer and it warns you that can’t use the doors or anything in the car while it is updating.

Plus they updated the software anyways so that the windows can drop down even when using the manual release. Also for later updates they drop the windows a bit before starting the update, just so you can open the doors with the manual release without worrying about damaging the trim.
