In terms of the economy and affect on local businesses, I don’t think police actions is the main cause. Even when the police presence was limited, the non-stop protests meant the desire for people to visit businesses went down. Protesters also pushed to specifically impact any people or businesses that were seen to be

Hong Kong does not have their own military, but there definitely is a Chinese military presence (of several thousand) in Hong Kong. As a last measure this can be used to shut down the protests, as there is a provision in the Hong Kong’s mini-constitution that allows that:

That’s exactly the same logic despotic governments have used to crack down on their citizens. Recently, Kazakhstan used the same “terrorist” claim to crack down on opposition protesters. The UN pointed it out.

But the outrage was from what is considered norms in most of the world and puts pressure on various governments not to attempt to violate those. You don’t call in the military unless it was absolutely necessary. Just because the protester’s cause does not match yours, doesn’t mean it is suddenly justified to use more

The optics of that would look horrible. Remember all the outrage over the Hong Kong government’s reaction to the Hong Kong protests (with Canada playing a big part in the reaction, given the heavy ties between Hong Kong and Canada)? Even Hong Kong did not use the military. Now you give them a perfect example of the

I also don’t think L2 for cities would be that useful, but Jalopnik is arguing it’ll lead to more fatigue even for long roadtrips on highways/freeways (where presumably 90% of trip is the car staying in a lane going straight at a steady speed).

Yep, that’s the main point. It drastically lowers the probability of a crash for someone that was going to be distracted anyways. So even if it does induce a certain proportion of people to become more distracted, overall it's safer.

It only has 27 hp and has a top speed of 62 mph (which I imagine it will take a while to get to). The earlier ones didn’t even have airbags, but later ones added it. No way it meets federal standards here.

The point wasn’t about the invite though, just the points Biden made about GM and Ford being leaders in US-made EV when they were not. Perhaps Biden didn’t write those comments himself, but it just shows ignorance of the EV market.

I agree also, I think the whole petition and Twitter thing is silly and meaningless, but it just struck me how poorly researched and written this article was. I mean you didn’t even need to do any research, the links were all in the petition itself and yet somehow this article got it all wrong (especially with the

The meeting was about trying to get companies to get on board with the plan. Wouldn’t you want to try convince the companies that had doubts rather than ones that were already on board?

They aren’t actually responding only to a 6 month old event, they are primarily talking specifically about the Build Back Better meeting that just happened last Wednesday 1/26. This was specifically mentioned in the petition actually and is hard to miss. Not sure why your report does not mention that at all?

Yeah, I’ve seen people call for a HUD for Teslas, but a lot of these dashboard systems call themselves a “HUD” but they really are just another gauge cluster that still require you to glance away from the road.

Same reason why cruise systems let you set the speed to above the speed limit (even if it has maps that tell it what’s the given limit on a road, and it’s strictly illegal in many jurisdictions, including California). It is expected behavior to break the law and the car following expected may be safer than someone

The way you sound to a microphone is different from how you sound to yourself just singing or talking. It’s much closer to how other people perceive you sound.

If this is a way to cheap out on motors, then it sucks. If this is still using regular motors and trying to reduce the wear, or if it’s an anti-annoying kid feature, that is moreunderstandable. But it should be toggleable and a choice by the owner.

Yep, that is the core issue. The issue isn’t that they can’t be fully recycled, but rather it costs more than you get in raw material value. But we have existing ways to address this sort of: a core charge.

These old batteries are torn apart and sold on eBay regularly. Works great for DIY home energy storage. I would gladly take some if it was provided for free and they can't figure how to dispose, but they still have commercial value, so are sold for good money.

Answer is pretty simple, they don’t even have enough parts to make the profitable models, they certainly won’t bother to focus on a cheaper model at this point, given presumably it’ll require more volume, volume that they can’t really deliver at the moment (it was a miracle that they got the volume they got last year,

If you look at the Cybertruck design, it seems they are going for a continuous surface from the hood to the windshield. Doing the conventional design would create a lip, which they are probably trying to avoid.
