Yes, it's a sampling. He could've made the list just as long with example from this year. He could've made the list ten times as long from one particular decade. And that's from the cases we know of, since it is not required for police dept. to self-report shootings for statistical purposes. Yes, the system is

Read "The New Jim Crow," by Michelle Alexander

This troll was worth responding to JUST for your comment. We need to cut this shit RIGHT out of the conversation. It always reminds me of conservatives screaming about the alleged harm of polical correctness, as if the alleged harm is worse than the racism/xenophobia/sexism it directly addresses. It's such an

Does a system that used, Jim Crow, redlining to prevent black prosperity, educational discrimination to prevent literacy, literacy tests to qualify to vote to prevent black people from exercising their rights, and now guns down black bodies with impunity qualify as a racist system or nah?

I'm sympathetic to your point, but I have to disagree, if nothing else for the reason that we simply don't know how often this happens. As Deadspin/Regressing have pointed out, there is no federal data collecting how many instances of police shootings there are every year. What we do know is that it's possible that

But these instances are the norm. Where are those good cops? If there are good cops, they would also be outraged by this murder. One bad apple spoils the batch. And in this case, there are a lot more than one bad apple.

Again, you think an article riles people up? Injustice is the cause. This article is just an effect. People who are riled were angry long before his fingers hit the keyboard.

"Just plain apathetic"? I couldn't make this up.

Somebody missed the point...

I have a hard time articulating my rage, too- but I'm not a fucking bigot, though, so...[shrugs]

Actually, no. If you look at many, many studies over the year of violence and arrests and killings by officers, this narrative really holds up. You're just willfully ignoring the facts to continue in your own bubble.

Would love to see who's reccin' these posts.

So when a few of them get murdered, arrested for no reason, pulled over for being black, not given a job because of their name or race, passed over for promotion because of their race, etc. they should stop complaining and just try harder? Do you also believe that Karma will reward them with a raise.

Except his killers were charged & indicted, and at trial they'll go away for decades if not be put to death. Unlike these killer cops who straight up walked, usually without a trial. You ignorant dumbass. Think for 2 seconds.

Best comment in the thread. I too can't understand why I read the greys, but thank you for making it a little easier.

he made your dumb ass think for a few seconds at least

Of all of the really stupid comments in the grays that I read because I hate myself, I want to single this one out because I think it's truly a monumental achievement in tone-deafness to imagine that young black men are being more detrimentally affected by sympathetic Deadspin articles than by being MURDERED.

It's what the american justice system was designed to do from the ground up, I'm afraid. In vast swathes of this country, the purpose of breaking ground on a police station was so there would be armed men capable of hunting down and killing black people who did not submit totally to white rule. Any enforcement of law

You are describing a very small percentage of people fighting for that cause. I have, for example, never met a white person who was met with hostility while protesting alongside people of color against police brutality. From fellow protestors that is, the police were obviously hostile.
