Is it me. Or does this seem somewhat irresponsible to advise people to do this online? Couldn't someone kill themselves if they make a mistake? I do risky things with my phone via XDA but if I screw up I just end up with a bricked device. There isn't even a warning.

but even if you use antivirus programs its likely still just a matter of time before you have a problem. At my job they use expensive antivirus software and people still get crap on their computers. Also, I don't think he was suggesting using nothing at all just that the paid apps are unnecessary.

Still not to sure of number 5. Much malware is something you downloaded and installed, just don't do that. If the malware is particularly sophisticated your antivirus might not catch it anyway. You should definitely block online ads, but beyond that I think that antivirus programs are on balance, a scam.
