It probably would have worked on the early version of the Hex.  But Wanda turned up the juice on it, remember?  It went from mostly invisible...to red (as if to say KEEP OUT!)

The energy from the hex clearly has cellular altering priorities as Darcy told her later. The vehicle was supposed to allow her to penetrate the barrier without affecting her cell structure further.
