It has been shown in past (classic) comics that Galactus uses his super complex machinery to essentially ‘mine’ the planetary goodness from a world and deliver it to him more efficiently and with less mess. But Galactus is fully capable of simple “sinking” into a planet and absorbing its life energies directly.

....except the resolution I was praying for was a Banner/Hulk physical/mental split....with a fully enraged Hulk becoming a pseudo MCU villain.
