I would argue that if you ask them if they want it back and they say “no” you actually can keep it. That whole lawyers explanation is nice if there is a dispute but maybe there won’t be any interest from the other party in the piece.
1) why would I care if some password which I use on random forums gets used? It contains no usefull info besides my email adress which they already know to be able to login. It’s at least 10 years old, yes probably out there. But it has no connection to to passwords for stuff which need to be kept secure.
