Not to mention they could use some Skyactiv technology for their small cars. I don’t really see what would be in it for Mazda though. They seem to be doing well enough as a small company.

My family must have good luck, and maintenance habits. Our names, Audis, volvos, Hondas, subarus and chryslers have all made it to 200k except the BMW needed a refurb tranny
Insurance should not pay out claims for un-belted occupants. Problem solved.
A far easier approach is to NOT COUNT unbelted fatalities as auto fatalities. Instead create a new “idiot” category for them. Lumping them in with belted occupants unfairly penalizes the auto industry and leads to idiotic things like automatic seat belts.
