Protests can certainly drive the impetus to vote, thereby effecting change. Or transmitting the will of the people to their elected officials, forcing them to change or abandon policies or proposals. I’d say protests and voting go hand-in-hand in a democracy.

Only one way out that I know, and I’m not interested in it currently.

Yeah, major reason I got out of it. Deregulation isn’t just a rallying cry of the right, it has real, concrete effects that I’ve seen firsthand. Depressing as hell.

Jesus, that fireball is terrifying. One thing I can tell you from working in petrochem in the past, is that all these plants are old as hell. Capital upgrades are sparse, slow to be implemented, and often way behind the curve of current practice and technology.
