If my employer were to tell me that I’m no longer allowed to work 70 hours/week, I’d find a new employer. Employment is a voluntary arrangement, you see. Your arguments presuppose that workers are unwilling victims of employers (“mandatory”—you keep using that word), but that just isn’t how any of this works.
