I live in Ireland and a lot of Irish people use “kind of” as a verbal tic. I’ve heard SO MANY people pepper their conversations with “kind of”. It drives me crazy. Another one that I hear at work a lot is “in terms of” and that phrase is used where it doesn’t even make sense.

My cousin went to college with a girl from a wealthy family whose parents had her do community service every summer so she was aware of her privilege. They wanted her to spend some time helping out others less fortunate and spend her summers doing something worthwhile. I think that’s pretty admirable.
