I drove around a tiny Mazda loaner from the mechanic for a while, and it was great.  I’d love a truck like that for my own.

I can think of more than a few candidates.

No one anywhere anytime should be worth a billion dollars or more. At that point, it’s just a super-rich version of Keeping Up With the Joneses.

Apologies if you don’t want feedback like this, but this isn’t much of a deal, at least based on the price of Bubly around me. (Maybe it’s a regional thing?) I can get an 8-pack of a single flavor from the grocery store for $4 at full price, which is the same 50 cents a can as this deal.  They’re often on sale for

All of this.

So goddamn tired of this “You did terrible things as a teenager” bullshit. No, no I didn’t. I did stupid, embarrassing things, sure, but they never never never involved assault, racism, harassment, or the other shit these entitled little shits keep doing. Fuck ‘em all. Nah.  The cheapskate probably chose Domino’s $5 mediums.  And refused to tip.

According to the OED, it actually comes from Medieval Latin. Decimatus means “to tithe” and the word was retroactively applied to the Roman practice. Word origins are often as much myth as they are fact.

That link is from a year and a half ago?

I keep having dreams about getting caught in nuclear explosions. I was 11 when the Berlin Wall came down. I remember school drills spent hiding under desks. I don’t remember ever have dreams like these.

A library isn’t about what you read, but what you have access to.

In dialogue or in writing? Because trying to force people to suppress verbal tics just leads to the rise of newer, even more grating ones.

Using “decimate” to mean “destroy a huge portion” dates back to 1600, and using “literally” figuratively dates back to the 1700s. Words always have and always will have multiple and potentially contradictory meanings.

This wall will only keep out poor people who carry everything they own on their backs.

Cards Against Humanity is such a wasted space on any list. Anyone who doesn’t know what it is likely doesn’t want to know what it is, and nobody needs a reminder that it exists.

I am. Thank you. I cut ties with him 25+ years ago, and haven’t regretted it a day since then.

Oh yeah, it could be a nightmare. I was lucky that he only got bad once or twice a year, so we weren’t terrified all the time. Of course, that’s it’s own kind of torture, since we also never knew when he might go off or what might trigger it.
