I don’t totally agree with you, but I get it. I watched Clone Wars (have seen none of Rebels) and I was still a little surprised to see him there. Enough that I had to think for a moment why he was there. My second reaction was, “Wow. If you haven’t seen Clone Wars, that’s going to make no sense at all.”

I was hoping the reason to not get excited was because they’re not actually making it, but no... it’s still happening. I like the new Star Wars movies, but holy crap please do something that isn’t an origin story or about one of the core characters.
