Going completely off the rails is what makes Archer so great. I love that every year they go “Fuck it” and do whatever story they want to do.
Yes and like drug dealers he’s constantly giving his product away to kids for free.
Did you also walk to school? In the snow? Uphill both ways?
“Learn to say no.” Is he succumbing to the evils of roundabout drifting because of peer pressure? Is this like those “Just say no to drugs” DARE adverts from back in the day?
Maybe losing his license would be a good thing...
My cousin once tried to put my (automatic) pickup in neutral while I was driving down a street at about 30. It went into reverse briefly, made an awful noise, and I shifted back to overdrive. I was convinced for years that the incident led to a number of transmission problems.
I’m curious, do you happen to work for one of the other driving companies?
I’m far from the only person commenting who is offering perspective either from first-hand experience at SpeedVegas or from some other driving experience. I’m not here to gain “internet fame” but thanks for logging into your burner account to rip me.
I had a very similar experience at Speedvegas just without the recon lap in an SUV. A quick lesson on racing lines in front of a white board, some time on the grid, and away we went.
It was dirt on the left side of the straight (no shoulder/run-off) when I went last year. Doubt they did any more paving in that area. They had numbered signs (5-1) before the painted kerbing that begins the chicane, the last one being approx. 10 yards from the kerbing. On my fastest lap I was on the brakes just past…
The thing about Speedvegas is their long straight. It was fun to go fast on it but, if I did an experience again, top speed won’t be the focus. That likely contributed to this crash. I want to drive somewhere that is slower overall but teaches good driving technique. I think the two places at the Speedway (Exotics and…
I just remembered that the SV cars did in fact have passenger brakes. I remember the instructor showing me how hard to brake at the end of the front straight because I had been doing it quite gently rather than stabbing it.
Definitely sounds like he was going too fast going into the chicane. One news report said they went off track briefly and then returned before hitting the tire wall. I wonder if he lost control in the braking zone before crossing the inside of the chicane, but I doubt he shed much speed in the braking zone if the…
The thing is, I’d probably do it again. I really enjoyed it. But I also didn’t push myself too hard (with the exception of a mistake that is slightly less terrifying in retrospect) and I know after this crash, I’d probably be pretty cautious (and slow) if I did it again.
My incident? Yes.
I think some places like this have student driver brakes installed for the passenger seat, but I don’t recall that being the case in the two cars I drove at Speedvegas.
I read somewhere last night that they likely died on impact. They were gone before the fire.
