You could probably reprogram the ECU and get some of the emissions issue solved, but I’ve said before, and I’ll say again: Donate them to universities for research, or get some 3rd party company to make them into TTR hybrids.
I’d say add battery packs and TTR hybridize them. Diesel-electric hybrid would be awesome.
Donate them to universities with automotive engineering programs, and run a contest for who can make the most real-world efficient diesel hybrid. They’re a great test-bed for research.
Without the cheat they don’t even come close to passing emissions. They emit something like 4-5x than they’re allowed (That could be wrong, that’s from memory).
Few people are doing this to in-warranty cars. They’re full warranty is only 3y/36k, so there are plenty for the aftermarket to dick around with. The powertrain is 5y/60k... And people are doing it to them all the time, and probably don’t care anyway.
People literally slap a blower, wider tires, and a radiator upgrade on these things all the time, and the rest of the drivetrain handles it beautifully.
I keep saying, if they used a 2.5L 200-220HP/190-210 Ft-Lb engine, the power complainers would go away. This car needs more torque than anything.
Not if it snows where they live.
That’s why they pay engineers money.
Subaru should easily be able to get 190+hp out of the FB25 with little engineering. An old friend that was a Subaru mechanic for about a dozen years said that the old EJ22 heads on an EJ25 (SOHC only, no VVT) would do exactly that.
He even proved it to me on a legacy engine swap he did. He took a 1st gen Legacy Sedan,…
Mr. Tracy, You’re fucked.
Full disclosure: My two go-to brands are Subaru and Toyota. But I think if the audio equipment and blind spots are that bad, I’d pick the Crosstrek or HR-V first. The Subaru already has aftermarket support for aiding ground clearance.
Still no 2.0 turbo-diesel? WTF SUBARU?
Except when you look at long-term reliability.
They have AWD in the CR-V. How hard would that be to adapt, since they’re on the SAME modular platform?
Except when every car I’ve ever seen comes off the truck at a dealer, the plastic is transparent. I’m not buying it.
So a Camaro Grand Sport, basically?
