How, exactly, does having your publishing company pair you up with a professional songwriter and then having your album released on a major label qualify as "DIY"?
Yeah, the technology is definitely dated, but it was 1993. The internet was just a baby, and all of our phones and clothes and hair were huge. And just wait til you get to the episode with the microfiche! (As for the slideshows, I kind of imagine that Mulder prepared them in some wayward dream of having a whole…
Season one is pretty low budget, but there are some essential episodes in addition to BTS that you shouldn't skip. Squeeze, Ice, Fallen Angel, EBE, Tooms, and The Erlenmeyer Flask are all excellent, and some of them will be referenced in later episodes.
And yes, definitely start with the pilot episode - some people…
Seconded. His album Parade On from last year was exceptional.
Agreed with all of this - Class Clown Spots a UFO is probably one of my favorite GBV albums of any era. I'd put Bears for Lunch and Motivational Jumpsuit right behind it in my top 3 of the reunion albums.
As for solo stuff, Blazing Gentlemen and Honey Locust Honky Tonk were both strong. Based on those alone, I'm…
All of that, 100%, except swap out NC with SC for me.
Agreed - I've seen her live a bunch of times, and she's quite funny, jokes and quips in between songs and what not. But she takes her art super seriously, which, in this irony-heavy age, is probably getting harder and harder for people to know how to process.
My friends and I once bought tickets for an Alanis Morrissette show just because pre-pop-phase Liz Phair was opening. We didn't even give poor Alanis a chance, left right after Liz.
I got a raise today AND my show's coming back! This is basically the greatest day of my life. Tomorrow I'll probably get hit by a bus.
Yeahhhh…I enjoyed this show a lot more than the typical serial killer drama, which is not usually my cup of tea at all, but I feel like they pretty much tied it all up with that last episode of season 2. It's going to be hard to make a bunch of lengthy courtroom episodes not feel superfluous.
Dammit, Jim.
Patti Smith, a Twilight fan? What's next, a duet with Stevie Nicks?
Same here - my dad resembled Jack Arnold in both looks and temperament, and one afternoon, a year or so after my dad (who was also a Vietnam vet) passed away, I caught some Wonder Years reruns on TV. I thought, "oh fun, a show from my youth!" It was one of the later episodes, where Karen is getting ready to leave…
Something something Larry Sanders Show….
Every year, my family gathers round the TV to watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and every year, I pretend like I'm not just staring at Beverly D'Angelo's breasts the entire time.
Bitchen guitars. This reminds me of Mason/Dixon by Urge Overkill. And it's timely.
According to an interview she did this past weekend, he pretty much plotted it out and she wrote the actual prose.
You know, I gotta say, while it's pretty ridiculous that the average internist would Google stem cell research and then perform neurosurgery, in IWTB's defense, I worked for a group of urologists a few years back, and when I went into one of the doctors' offices to do some paperwork, I saw that the doctor who'd been…
Point taken! Freaks & Geeks is excellent. Evidently, though, I happen to be the one person in America who finds that whole epic shitting scene in Bridesmaids to be just gross rather than heee-larious. I'm surprised I haven't been deported yet.
