Not to nitpick, but neither people in the story are actual surgeons. As someone who is about to do a residency in neurology, I don’t want people confused on what type of doctor performs which type of medicine. But your overall point is spot on!!!

You are right about the 5 speed. I owned an 06' wrx that had 334 whp and I was constantly worried about blowing the transmission. If I recall correctly, most of the tuners I talked to recommended not going over 350 whp without beefing up the transmission. I am curious if the 6 speed in the new 15'+ wrx is tougher.
