Unfortunately cost. You pay more up front in development but less in parts and manufacturing for some wiring, switches, etc... cheaper than mechanical, easier to assemble, less parts bin space, lower shipping costs, allows for automation...

The Ford GT did not meet GTE rules. It was OK’s by the other GTE teams in good will. The design and shape of the other cars can be mass produced and used daily. Read about the Ford. Yeh. I mean I get people’s points about homologation specials but the Ford GT is in another league and didn’t even meet homologation. Its unlike every other car in the GTE class. Then sandbagging all season to avoid an accurate BOP... any other team doing that would “peeve” me just the same.
