I hate to say it, but I started to reach my saturation point during the flurry of GBV reunion albums. Plus, the way he broke up the band mid-tour just to turn around and reform with a bunch of random new guys kind of turned me off. Since then, I've given up on trying to keep up with every single Pollard release.

Yep. As a public accountant, I work with quite a few college educated people who basically had the mindset of "he's a joke, but he's my default republican choice."

The most annoying thing about the show is when Bill stops a good conversation so he can go to a dull written comedy bit.

The best one I've heard so far is that he looks like the guy in a zombie movie who's been bitten and is trying to hide it from the rest of the group.

It wouldn't surprise me. When I saw EODM (just a couple of months before the Bataclan incident), he introduced a pro-military song while referring to Obama as a Kenyan and a communist.

Ehhh, I'm not a Sublime fan either, but I don't see how that box set is any less "essential" than the Blink-182 vinyl set on the A.V. Club's "great gifts" list.

I had no clue that existed! I just wish there were a similar extension for my local newspaper's web site.

I was on my honeymoon in England when the results came in, and yeah, most of the Brits who asked me about it seemed more sympathetic than anything else.

I've been meaning to go back and check that one out. I skipped it because I was out of the country on my honeymoon (waking up in England to the election results was… surreal). Then when Tom alluded to the episode the next week, I thought, "Uh-oh, sounds like I missed a good one."

That's around the time we finally got Comedy Central too—just before South Park premiered. I feel like I sort of missed the golden era because Monty Python and MST3K were already gone by that point. I do remember watching a ton of Dr. Katz and Whose Line Is It Anyway that summer.

I remember seeing a brand new copy of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in a Musicland store circa 1990 with a $90 price tag.

Yeah, I think it usually took about a year from the rental release before movies went to the regular consumer market. One of the perks of the Columbia House movie club is you could buy movies at normal prices as soon as the rental came out.

Plus, the miracle of suddenly being able to watch movies on demand at home and record things off TV surely must have overshadowed its technical imperfections.

Seeing their performance for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction kind of squashed any desire I have for a full-blown reunion. Jerry Harrison looked like the only one having any fun. At this point, I can't imagine there being a shred of chemistry left among them.

Would those documentaries even fit in with IFC's format anymore though? It's been about a year since I've watched IFC, but last I saw, it seemed like it was basically trying to brand itself as the indie-rock Comedy Central.

Yeah, poor Jimi. I don't know if he ever wound up with an album cover he liked. I actually do like the US cover for Electric Ladyland though.

The 70s seemed to be a much looser time when it came to child nudity. It's kind of odd that of all the fucked up things in Jodorowsky's movies, perhaps the most unsettling thing to me is the liberal use of naked kids.

Yeah, Filmstruck is supposed to be an upcoming joint service between TCM and Criterion. I signed up for their newsletter, but no updates yet. I'm kind of holding out for that before adding any new streaming services. I did Sling last year but eventually cancelled it when I realized just how shitty 90% of cable

Heh, I'm the same age as you, and I was obsessed with classic rock, making only the occasional detour into a Nirvana or a Weezer. Somewhere around '96 or '97, I made a conscious effort to get into what the kids were into, and it gives me chills thinking about it. Oh, those were some dark days. Then again, it bums me

Hulu kind of lost its purpose for me when all of its British comedy shows moved to Seeso. Once the Criterion Collection moves to Filmstruck, I think it'll finally be time to pull the plug on ol' Hulu.
