Yeah, it's pretty debatable whether the "good ol' days" ever really existed for SNL. It's always been really hit and miss. The "Best of" DVDs are basically the way to go. Having said that, I still don't find the highlights from the mid-to-late 90s all that funny. Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri can scream as loud as they

Ugh, I REALLY think people look back at the Will Ferrell years with rose-tinted glasses. Norm might have been funny, but that era had some of the most obnoxiously annoying recurring characters in the show's history.

Yeah, I think the write-up implies that The Spotlight Kid and Clear Spot are lesser albums, but they aren't. More normal, sure, but still really great.

Sad news
R.I.P., Don.

Er, was SNL really much better in 1996? That was around the time I gave up on the show.

Dane Cook's WFT appearance actually made me like Dane more and like Maron less. It seemed like Marc went out of his way to needle Dane and condescendingly blew off his stories about his parents dying. Then again, Maron belongs to the camp that believes you're a worthless hack unless you've proven your cred by

The "casual sexism" comment kinda made me roll my eyes too.

I'll step up and defend Hot Tub Time Machine as well. It wasn't anything earth-shattering, but it made me laugh. I probably laughed more at it than I did at that overrated Hangover movie.

Mark Prindle's Miles Davis reviews are hilarious.

I've still yet to see an NC-17 movie in the theater. I was surprised that one of the major theater chains here was showing Bad Education when it came out, but I never got around to seeing it.

There is a bizarrely prudish TV edit that cuts out a lot of the cartoony violence and a good chunk of the pet show segment. I think the entire scene with Emo Phillips is cut as well.

The Jerk is another weird one. No F-bombs at all. I guess naming a dog Shithead was just too much in 1979 without a PG-13 rating to refer to.

I enjoyed Yo La Tengo the two times I've seen them, but yeah, they aren't a band that really comes to mind when I think of great live acts. When they actually plays songs, they're great, but the improvised noise stuff is snooze city.

I don't get why Doug Gillard didn't play the solo then. He usually kept himself reasonably stable onstage.

Yeah, they can over-do it sometimes. I was actually annoyed when I watched the Electrofying Conclusion DVD and saw how sloppy they were just by the half-way mark. They were perfect in Atlanta last October though.

I think it's stupid that the crowd acted the way they did, but I think Solomon's reactions are equally idiotic. Crass philistines! A culture that values celebrity and award shows over art! Yeesh, could a person possibly fulfill the stereotypes of a snooty-nosed art cliche any better?

I caught a handful of episodes when it aired and thought it was inoffensive but pretty forgettable. Years later, after falling in love with Freaks & Geeks on DVD, I decided to give Undeclared another shot, and I still wasn't very impressed. To me, there's just too much broad comedy that makes it feel very sitcomy. It

I came home from school (5th grade), turned on MTV and saw two Nirvana videos in a row and thought, "Oh cool, a Nirvana marathon?" Then Kurt Loder came on and filled me in. Yeah, I was pretty upset.

At least Scott is a likeable host. I find Marc Maron such an incredibly unlikeable guy half the time. His interviews are usually great, but I get really bored with his obsession with being miserable. He acts like there's something thoughtful and intellectual about it, but to me it's just narcissistic and whiny. During

Nitpicky correction…
Never Not Funny just began Season 8.
