I get what you're saying, but.... emergent narrative and the possibilities it presents is part of what makes games exciting, no? A good narrative designer/writer can navigate those waters and create some truly amazing and engaging stuff (if supported by a team that gives a shit, of course...)....

The story, for instance, is complex and uncompromising - it doesn't really care if you understand, or if you remember this or that character.

I mean, I.... I think in general we call that 'bad writing.'

'What was more fun about RPGs back then?'

He was younger.

There's no 'to be fair' about it. It wasn't ready. I sympathize with the developers, I'm pretty sure they KNEW it wasn't ready. But MS's short-sighted suits said 'ship it, damn it, we need to sell xboxes.'

Right, it's based on calendar year. If a film releases in limited release on Dec 26 - one week before the year ends - it's eligible. (Although the screeners begin going out as early as October / November for a given year.) I have no idea what the dates are for these awards, but if it's Jan 1 2013 - Dec 31 2013, then

Stopped reading when you started going on rants about 'left wing blogs.'

Hell - Maybe if anything, they should do these dumb GOTY awards a few months into the next year, give hype time to settle down a little, see what's still standing after the dust has settled......

In that case, sure, but plenty of films are released in limited release in December, just under the year end deadline. They call it 'awards season' for a reason. There is no 'it must have been out X number of weeks and seen by X number of people' criteria with this stuff. Especially since the industry people involved,

'too new to win?'
'Many people still haven't played it.'

....Isn't that like saying 'I haven't seen 12 YEARS A SLAVE yet, it just came out two weeks ago, therefore it can't win an Oscar.'

I'm not sure fanboys cancel themselves out, though. It's the Yelp syndrome — most people who eat at and enjoy a restaurant do so and then move on with their lives. The percentage of those who had a shit time or are holding some weird grudge against the waiter or whatever that flock to Yelp to shout their displeasure

'Average customer review?' Seriously, that's your criteria? Internet fanboys prone to fits of bitterness, spite, and hyperbole?.... 'Customer reviews' are a joke.

' It just looks like a standard 3rd person shooter that happens to be set in Victorian England.'

Sounds good so far!

You're upset that there's not a DIGITAL collector's edition?........ Am I reading that right?...

'It just looks like a standard 3rd person shooter that happens to be set in Victorian England.'

Hahaha. You suck, man.

Your ridiculously needless projection and hostility has reminded me of why I try to avoid commenting on the internet. So - thanks for that!

I didn't touch FF13, but I REALLY liked LOST ODYSSEY. It really hit a sweet spot for me.

Sure! Forgot about that one.

I'm... being serious. I'm well aware that Playstation has been home to a lot of JRPGs. But I don't know of many that are actually announced for PS4 (in North America, anyway).... FFXV and what else...?
