Excellent points—and an accurate interpretation of Luther. I too reached that uncomfortable and frightening intellectual juncture you described, having, like you, grown up in a very Christian household, one that attended church every Sunday and read the Bible through and through. I can't speak to your experience

March onward Christian (nutbag) soldier!!

Yet, religious belief (for the poor of Latin America, Asia, and Africa) would also dictate that the "Creator of the Universe", who apparently personally loves these people, has sent down upon them (or watched with complete indifference) horrific, unspeakable events for unknown, arbitrary reasons—or worse, for their

A) Again, I am not focused solely on Christianity, although you appear quite excited to defend it against non-existent challenges. As you state yourself, the motivations on both sides of the Inquisition and the Crusades were religious ones. It's staggering to see you admit this in one breath and then, in the next,

A) Firstly, that proposition is nonsense, but again, I'm not denying that bad things happen outside of a religious context. I'm well aware certain people can be incredible assholes for numerous reasons other than religious ones. I'm really not sure where, in my writing, you're finding that I'm arguing the point that

Yet all the groups you just named were religious. Again, you've missed my point!! Bad people will do bad things no matter what. However, to get good people to do very bad things, you must have religion.

Wait, so your "given bad thing" in this example is protection of one's home? I'd say that's actually a good thing. I happily maintain that good people will do good things for the right reasons, but religion is needed to get good people to do bad things, like rob, rape, and colonize an entire continent of people.

Wait wait wait, you're arguing in support of religion by claiming it sure does help justify a lot of horrific actions? Next, please

Perhaps, but religion is the only thing to make man war over absolutely nothing at all

You may not want to read this then:

I have to ask, how did you arrive at the conclusion that Atheists are the ones trying so hard after reviewing this film?

I got this from the Christian Science Monitor's review of the film:

Ohhhhhh here we go…
